Czech language courses at the Czech Centres are taught by teachers who have extensive experience in teaching Czech. Very often these are local Czechs, with whom a Czech centre enters into direct cooperation with via local universities. The permanent team of teachers at Czech centres are complemented by 20-25 external and very experienced Czech teachers who teach online (and partly in person) with the support of the Czech Centre Kyiv.
The aim of these courses is to teach students effective communication in Czech based on a communicative approach. A number of students get to know Czech culture and current day life through the Czech language. Other students include those who plan to move to Czechia or study there in the future and want to prepare for passing internationally recognized exams in the Czech language (CCE).
For teaching, we use a number of textbooks such as Czech Step By Step, Czech Express, Czech for Foreigners, Připravujeme se k Certifikované Zkoušce z Češtiny and additional accompanying materials, e.g. Levou Zadní, Čeština pro Život, Domino, adapted texts by Lída Holá, etc. We also have two comprehensive databases of internally created learning materials on a shared platform.
We place great emphasis on methodical support for our teachers. We cooperate with the Association of Teachers of Czech as a Foreign Language and with the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of Charles University (ILPS CU). We send teachers to methodological symposia, as well as online and face-to-face training. We organize internal methodical trainings for teachers, and there is also an internal methodologist in the Czech Centres network.
