In June, we organized another curatorial study visit to the Czech Republic focused on the presentation of Czech glass. Following the visit of a curator from Serbia, we welcomed Sofia Botvinnik, curator at the Museum of European Cultures (MEK) in Berlin. The purpose of her trip was to gain first-hand insight into the Czech glass scene and meet artists and designers who could be invited to contribute to the expansion of the museum's upcoming exhibition on Czech glass, scheduled for the second half of 2027.

Accompanied by Simona Binko from the Czech Centre Berlin, Sofia Botvinnik visited the Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou, where she met with its chief curator, Petr Nový. She also toured the Prague studios of glass designers Jan Plecháč and Johan Pertl, as well as the studios of renowned Czech glass brands Moser, BOMMA, Rückl, Dechem, and Qubus. In addition, she explored the permanent glass collection at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, accompanied by art historian Markéta Čejková, who helped place contemporary Czech glassmaking within its broader historical context.

The programme provided Sofia Botvinnik with a multifaceted perspective on the Czech glass scene, spanning institutional and historical foundations, the challenges faced by established manufacturers, the work of emerging artists, and contemporary curatorial approaches to the medium. Reflecting on her visit, she said:

I would like to sincerely thank the Czech Centres for the opportunity to take part in this study visit. It gave me valuable insight into the traditions and innovative strength of Czech glassmaking and has had a lasting impact on my work. Thank you once again for this exceptional experience. I greatly appreciated your support and look forward to our future collaboration.
