This June marks the 100th anniversary of the death of one of modern literature’s founders, the Prague-born writer Franz Kafka.
His legacy will be remembered throughout the cultural world, and in 2024, the Czech Centres, together with their local partners and other institutions, are preparing a series of cultural and educational events in many fields.
Kafka perceived the complexities of the modern world of his time. Does he also speak to the world we live in today? Is Franz Kafka truly A man of his and our time? This is the title of the exhibition by Renáta Fučíková and Radek Malý, which the Czech Centres have prepared for their international network in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The exhibition will be presented in multiple countries on various occasions and in multiple languages.
The Czech Centres are involved in the Kafka2024 project, which connects actors who will focus their programmes on Kafka's anniversary, especially in Czechia, Germany and Austria. This platform also provides an overview of events taking place in connection with the anniversary in other countries. The project is under the auspices of the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic, Martin Baxa, and the Federal Government's Commissioner for Culture and Media, Claudia Roth.
