Czech glassmaking is famous both in Europe and worldwide, partly due to the fact that Czech glassmakers have always succeeded in coming up with new and unique products which were different from those by their competitors – and it is still the case today. The exhibition will showcase major innovative contributions to international glassmaking (utility glass, technical glass, glass jewellery) from the beginnings of the production to the present. It will contribute to the perception of the craft as an innovative, original skill with a long tradition in the Czech Republic.
While the historic part of the exhibition (ORIGIN) will showcase Czech innovation bestsellers of the past made by contemporary glass manufacturers, the contemporary part (NEW ERA) will focus on brand new products from after 2000. The format of the exhibition allows for drawing connections between glassmaking and other Czech phenomena such as beer brewing, automotive and nanotechnologies. The exhibition will be complemented by a catalogue in English.
The exhibition is set to premiere at the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja, Spain, on 7 July 2022. The event will officially launch the celebration of the Czech EU Presidency on the Iberian Peninsula. As part of the Spanish launch, the public will be able to enjoy lectures as well as workshops with Czech glassmakers. In October, the project will launch in Poland at the Poznan University of Technology (Faculty of Architecture). Finally, to conclude the Presidency, the exhibition will open at the Czech House Bratislava as part of the Bratislava Design Week 2022. The Slovak portion of the exhibition will feature the innovations by the Slovak glassworks RONA.
