The CYCLE UP! project, which the Czech Centres network has been part of since spring 2023, aims to merge art and sustainable transport. The key ambition is to connect art events with citizens and help local politicians find sustainable solutions for towns and cities. The vision of the project includes artistic interventions in public space, support for cycling and outputs addressed to public officials.
In summer 2024, the first round of artist residencies took place under the auspices of the Czech Centres in Berlin, Bratislava, and Prague, and in collaboration with the other project partners also in Katowice and Tartu. The resulting art projects - in line with the project's core values - were dedicated to improving the situation in the field of sustainable transport in cooperation with the local community and in an effort to reach out to responsible officials.
The next round of residencies will take place in summer 2025.
By 2027, further outputs of the project will be sustainable residencies guidelines, drawing from the key lessons learnt during their implementation, and a toolkit for organising cultural events of different sizes with active public participation. The project will culminate in a 2026 conference.
The project is co-funded by the European Union under the Creative Europe Programme. Project registration number: 101098882.
The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
