Today, at the beginning of the 21st century, women in Czechia are free to choose their status, education, property and career. But the predecessors of today's women had to make enormous efforts to change their situation. We can, therefore, rightly call them HEROINES.

As part of the international conference GLOBSEC Forum Prague 2024, we are presenting the exhibition CZECH HEROINES created in cooperation with the Czech Centres and the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art of the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň (Sutnarka). The exhibition presents portraits of remarkable Czech women captured through the eyes of young illustrators, the former students of the Studio of Didactic Illustration led by the illustrator, writer and teacher Renáta Fučíková.

The portraits depict notable women from the earliest times to the present day, from all walks of life, from politicians, stateswomen and political activists to artists, fashion designers, car racing drivers, equestrians and successful sportswomen. Women who, despite historical circumstances, societal expectations or cultural conventions, have not been afraid to be strong in their attitudes, opinions, responsibilities and commitments. Some have been celebrated, others unjustly forgotten.

Since its launch in 2020, the exhibition has travelled to 30 countries around the world thanks to the Czech Centres and Czech Embassies. Many of the countries have even created their own portraits of local heroines presented alongside the Czech ones – we can admire remarkable women from Greece, Georgia, Luxembourg, Finland, Egypt, Nigeria, Pakistan or Hong Kong.

On the occasion of the GLOBSEC Forum Prague 2024, a portrait of a heroine from GLOBSEC's home country, the former Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová, was created.
