Prague-born Martha Issová was the female lead in Zátopek, a biopic of running legend Emil Zátopek that was one of the Czech Republic’s biggest films of recent years. She is also known for many other screen roles and is a member of the hugely popular theatre company Dejvické divadlo.
In this broad, illuminating chat, Issová (40) discusses – among other things – training to play javelin champion Dana Zátopková, being directed by her life partner, David Ondříček, her Syrian connections, spending time with Václav Havel – and the late Czech New Wave director she regards as the most interesting person she has ever met.
